Medication Aide Program

The cost includes the application fee, tuition fee, textbook uniform, and exam fee.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES.

 

 Graduates of the program will be able to understand the fundamental responsibilities and functions of the Texas Health and Human Services medication assistant position after successfully completing it. Graduates will also be capable of safely preparing and delivering medication while working under the guidance of a registered nurse. Graduates will also learn how to recognize side effects of popular medications given at long-term care facilities, as well as how to use medical terminology and abbreviations.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The student must:

  • Read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Be free of communicable diseases, and in suitable physical and emotional health to safely administer medications.
  • Be a high school graduate or have a GED. (A foreign Diploma must be evaluated.)
  • Be free of felony conviction.
  • Be employed as certified nurse aides listed on the Texas Nurse Aide Registry in active status and currently employed in a facility licensed under Texas Health and Safety Code Chapter 242 on the class start date or employed on the class start date as non-licensed direct care staff in a facility licensed under Chapter 247; a state supported living center or ICF/IID; and have 90 days of previous employment in the year preceding the class start date.

CLASS SCHEDULE 

This class is scheduled to be held every February and June of every year.
